Villa’s VMF restaurant has continued to grow in popularity and earn critical acclaim since its opening in October 2010.
The training restaurant, located in the Directors suite at Villa Park, has gone from strength-to-strength on the back of hosting some unique events and the launch of a new cookbook. VMF bucks the trend in using regional produce, with dishes cooked and served by youngsters from the area. As part of the fantastic scheme, apprentices who all live within a 10-mile radius of Villa Park spend two years with Aston Villa Hospitality and Events and take a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Services working with Walsall College as the training provider.
The restaurant offers tasty dishes and service with a smile - that's official according to some very appetising appraisals received. Since its launch, the restaurant has been handed top marks by several leading critics. What's On reviewer Vicky Price was blown away by what she saw when she visited the fine establishment, housed in the Trinity Road Stand. The highly-respected critic described her fine-dining night as one of the best experiences she'd ever had. She told readers she would recommend the restaurant to all and VMF received a five star rating across the board - an incredible and very rare achievement. Staff were: "Well-presented and very welcoming, while the food was of high quality with the menu an absoloute bargain"
It’s not just the critics that are impressed by VMF. The likes of Miss Birmingham Natalie Cutler, who invited restaurant staff to help out her fundraising event, and executive high-flyer Jo Cameron, who guested as part of National Apprenticeship Week, are keen supporters.
And the hard work of the students hasnt gone unnoticed with the restaurant and some of the students themselves picking up a whole host of awards which have included;
Football Hospitality Awards Chef team of the year - GOLD Star of the Future - Frances Cash - GOLD Special achievement award - VMF Students - BRONZE Marche Awards Young chef of the year - Frances Cash - SILVER Birmingham Green Restaurant Awards VMF - Highly commended
VMF has also played host to several food champions evenings which have gone down a storm with guests. And the fabulous work of the students and chefs was highlighted further by the launch of a VMF cookery booklet, which has also proved popular. The cookery booklet is available to purchase for only £3 from the VMF Restaurant with a profits raised going to Acorns.
